Sajid Khan directed and Sajid Nadiadwala produced the 2010 Indian Hindi comedy drama film Housefull. Anvita Dutt penned the dialogue, Nadiadwala developed the plot, and Rameshwar S. Bhagat edited the film. It was released as the first game in the Housefull series. It was based largely on the Tamil movie Karthala, which came out in 1998.
Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal, Lara Dutta, Deepika Padukone, and Jiah Khan are among the ensemble cast members of the movie. Boman Irani, Chunky Pandey, Randhir Kapoor, Lillete Dubey, and Malaika Arora make up the supporting cast, and Jacqueline Fernandez appears in an item number. On a ₹30 crore (US$3.5 million) budget, it was filmed in Italy and London. Khan made his final on-screen appearance in the movie, and on June 3, 2013, three years after its premiere, he passed away.
On April 30, 2010, the movie debuted on more than 750 theaters in India and received a mixed reception from critics. It was nevertheless a commercial triumph. The movie was deemed a huge hit after earning over ₹124.50 crore (US$14 million) at the global box office. With domestic box office receipts of ₹75 crore (US$8.7 million), it became the fifth highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2010, only surpassed by Dabangg, Golmaal 3, Rajneet, and My Name Is Khan. Three spiritual follow-ups to the movie were produced and released in 2012, 2016, and 2019, respectively: Housefull 2, Housefull 3, and Housefull 4.
